totepool betting
A Pool bet is when your stake is entered into a central pool, which will then be
divided up between the winning bets in proportion to the amount of money staked.
totepool On Course Rules, together with the General Rules and Regulations of
totesport apply to any point not covered above.
Fixed Odds / Starting Price (SP) betting
This method of displaying odds applies to SP's, Early Prices, Live Prices and
Ante-post.
For each Fixed Odds bet you will be offered odds on any outcome. The odds will
be determined depending on how likely totesport believe each outcome to be.
You must decide how much you wish to bet. This is known as your stake. The first
figure in the odds tells you how much you will win in proportion to your stake,
represented by the second figure. For example, if Red Rum is 7 to 1 (7/1) to win
the Grand National you can expect to win seven times your stake. Therefore if
your stake is £10 you will win £70.
Remember that if you place a winning bet you will also have your stake returned.
Therefore if you have £10 at 7/1 on Red Rum winning and he duly obliges, you
will have £80 credited to your account (£70 won + £10 stake).
In some circumstances we will predict an outcome is more likely to happen than
not and will offer you 'odds on', in which case you will win less than your
stake. For example, Red Rum might be 8/11 (also referred to as 11-8 odds on) to
win another race. For a stake of £11 you would win £8 and, of course, have your
£11 stake returned, making a total of £19 credited to your account.
In a situation where an outcome is deemed to be a 50% chance, we will offer odds
of 1/1. This is known as 'even money' or 'evens'. Again using the above example,
if you have a £10 bet at evens and Red Rum wins the race, you would win £10 and
with your £10 stake returned a total of £20 would be credited to your account.
