About DR
We want to capture the atmosphere of Distant Replays by sharing our story as
well as some of the press we've received since our beginning. What sets us apart
from the competition is our unique merchandise selection, but more importantly,
our passion for our business. We truly enjoy keeping sports legends alive and
bringing back memories of the "Good Old Days" to fans everywhere.
Our Story
Distant Replays was born out of a search for profession based on passion. The
business was started by Andy Hyman (pictured at left in his high school Lacrosse
uniform), a native New Yorker and a self proclaimed sports nut. He grew up in
the 1960's playing the computerized sports statistics game called Strat-o-Matic
and screaming Kill Bubba Kill! while watching his favorite player, Bubba Smith
lead the Michigan State Spartans. He knew he wasn't the only sports fan who
longed to re-live those great moments, so he decided he would turn his love and
knowledge of sports into a business.
The first location opened in Atlanta on April Fool's Day in 1998. The business
has expanded to our current "superstore" in the Buckhead area of Atlanta as well
as our virtual store on the web. We don't intend to stop here. We look forward
to growing our business nationally by opening retail outlets in other major
markets.
